Have a Good Night Sleep for a Great Job!

April 14, 2014

Did you get enough sleep last weekend? We all know the importance of getting 6-8 hours of a quality sleep for our health. But, did you know that your sleeping positions are also important to get a good job? Wrong sleeping positions can ruin your mood and your overall productivity in work. That is the result of a study conducted by Premier Inn, the biggest hotel chain in Great Britain, to 3000 males with various sleeping positions. The result shows that those who sleep on their left sides wake up with better mood compared to those who sleep on the opposite side.

Besides being more cheerful, sleeping on their left sides proves to give positive impacts on their productivity in work as well as their ability to have a positive outlook on life. These great impacts were found very few on people who sleep on their right sides. Those who sleep on their left sides also prove to love their jobs more, thus giving them more chance to be hired as permanent employees.

The research conducted by the biggest accommodation chain in Great Britain is based on the popular belief that the “wrong side” of bed can affect one’s life. Besides that, 75% British people are used to sleeping on the wrong side anyway, so it is a tough job to change their sleeping habit. But sleeping on your right side is not always bad, because research also found that those who sleep on their right sides earn more wage than those who sleep on their left sides.

The research does not necessarily dictate how someone should sleep, because the hotel chain, which conducted this research just intended to study the connection between someone’s sleeping position and his/her mood.

“It all started from the habit. If you are used to sleeping on a certain side, then it would be weird to suddenly change your habit. So what our parents said about sleeping positions affect our lives is somehow true,” said Claire Haigh, a spokesperson of Premier Inn and the head of the research.

You can use the result of the study as a reference, but exercising regularly has a more scientific proof on helping you sleep better and on more regular hours. With better sleep, you will wake up with better mood which will lead to more productivity in work and more positive outlook in life. It’s a positive domino effect!
