6 Water-Rich Foods and Drink to Eat In Iftar

The slogan “eating sweet food for iftar”, which means “berbukalah dengan yang manis saat buka puasa” in Indonesian is not necessarily true. The fact that eating sweet foods immediately after iftar will increase the size of your stomach and can cause a delay in digestion. It can also lead to fluctuation in the blood sugar level.

Eating sweet foods in iftar means you can eat something that has natural sugar, such as fruits that have adequate micro nutrition and minerals. The sweet foods that have minerals such as magnesium will help your metabolism system. On the other hand, foods and drinks with added sugar will increase your blood sugar level.

To fulfill your sweet tooth, here are some foods and  drink that can quench your thirst in iftar. Check this out!

1. Watermelon

As a water-rich fruit, watermelon has some of the highest water content, at up to 92 percent. It also has low calorie and only has 6 percent sugar so it is good to maintain your weight. Not only it can quench your thirst, watermelon is also good for your body's immune system, because it has lycopene, an antioxidant that can protect you from free radicals.

2. Strawberry

Just like watermelon, strawberries also have high water content, which makes them become a very hydrating food because it has around 91 percent water. Eating them will keep you hydrated during the day. Strawberries also contain fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, folat, and  manganese.

3. Orange

Orange has around 88 percent water. It is also high in vitamin C and potassium that contribute to boost the immune system and heart. Flavonoid, the antioxidant in orange will protect you from free radicals, make you feel full longer, and keep you hydrated.

4. Tomato

Tomato has around 94 percent water content. An average size tomato usually contains up to 118 ml of water. Tomato also contains vitamin, minerals, lycopene that can decrease the risk of heart disease and prostate cancer.

5. Pomelo

Pomelo contains around 88 percent water. It is one of the best foods to maintain your body weight, keep your cholesterol level, blood pressure, and blood sugar at normal level.

6. Coconut Water

In coconut water, it is not only filled with water, but also electrolyte, potassium, sodium, and chloride. Coconut water also helps you ease sore post-workout muscles. Coconut water is a better choice for you if you’re a fan of sport drinks that usually contain high added sugar.
