Running is still considered today’s fitness trend in Jakarta and surrounding areas. In addition to its whole bunch of benefits, this exercise can burn up to 748 calories per hour, and it’s very cheap! Running is a simple sport, the only things you need are running shoes and motivation. Tired of running in Car Free Day or Gelora Bung Karno? These are 5 most exciting running spots that you can find in Jakarta and surrounding areas. Happy running, strong buddies!
 
1. Cattleya Park, Slipi

West Jakarta, the part of Jakarta that famous for its hustle and bustle, turns out this place has a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. There is a shady green park with a surface area of approximately 3 hectares, which is perfect for a place to rest or exercise. Furthermore, this park that located across from Central Park Mall also has a reservoir and pavement that slopes, which is great for running track. This place is also easily accessible. If you are taking public transportation, hop on the bus to Grogol and get off at Tomang intersection or take Transjakarta bus and get off at Harapan Kita stop and walk the rest of the way. Driving your own vehicle? Not an issue. They have spacious parking area within the park and everyone is able to park for free.
 
2. Kota Mandiri Summarecon Bekasi

“When you run early in the morning, this place reminds you of France. Believe me!” said Ali Sobry, a content producer at a fairly prestigious online media and also a running addict who spent the majority of his running time in Jakarta. This integrated area is quite popular among runners in Jabodetabek because its unique European-style architecture that makes runners comfortable to linger and enjoy the views. Kota Mandiri Summarecon Bekasi also provide shuttle bus that will take you from FX Sudirman Mall, Central Jakarta.  
 
3. Sentul Cultural Park

Located in Sentul, Bogor, this place is best known for its lush green scenery. For the runners, this place is well suited for track run. “The track is run-able and the view is amazing!” said Aditya Kurniawan, one of the active members of Jababeka Runners. He added that if your starting point is begin from Taman Budaya, along the way you will be surrounded by pine forest. Think you can run longer? Drive through Jagowari Toll road, drive to exit South Sentul Tollgate, then turn left and you will find the Cultural Park. This place is highly recommended for those who want to spend the weekend in the rain city of Indonesia.
 
4. Ragunan Zoo

Although familiar to many, Ragunan zoo always hold a special place in Jakarta runners’ heart. Nano Oerip, Program & Development Manager for Gold’s Gym Indonesia, also an avid runner shares the same sentiment. “If you are looking for shady, tree-lined trails, then Ragunan Zoo is the place to go. It’s clean, tranquil, and perfect for those who like to run,” he said. Very easy to access, you just have to hop on Transjakarta Bus and get off at Ragunan stop. You will be required to pay Rp 4,000 for the entrance fee. It’s a great way to enjoy beautiful scenery and animals minus the crowd.
 
5. Menteng Park, Suropati Park, Situ Lembang Park (Park Hopping)


Need to get in a run while you are in town? Just head to Menteng Park, Suropati Park and Situ Lembang Park. Begin your running journey from Menteng Park that located in Central Jakarta, then proceed to Suropati Park, and end your journey at Situ Lembang Park. “It will be more fun if you are not crossing the main road, instead, run through the residential area. This path can be used as alternative path when the main road is already too crowded, especially during Car Free Day. “ Said Harry Angie, a devoted member of GEGERS (Gold’s Gym Runners). Not to mention you will find a beautiful reservoir at Situ Lembang park that makes the best place to rest and feast your eyes.
